All timber is sourced from suppliers whose forest management practices adhere to strict environmental and socioeconomic standards in accordance with the Criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
The timber is pressure treated REDWOOD and comes with a 10-year anti-rot and anti-infestation guarantee.
The uprights supplied are as standard 7cm x 7cm. Prices are available with 9x9cm timber, please contact us if you require this specification.
The timber we supply is cut to size, but is NOT PRE-drilled. You will need to do the drilling while building the play centre, with the specific drill bits that are included in the box. The instructions are very clear.
The towers come with platform heights of 60cm, 90cm, 120cm or 150cm.
The Toba slide for 60cm platform height, available in the Cascade, Platform module or the Penthouse tower.
The Tweeb slide for 90cm platform height for the Cascade. (only available in green)
The 120cm platform height will take a 2.2m long slide, and the 150cm platform height will take a 2.9m long slide.
The slides come in blue, green, or red.
If you would like to have a tower without a slide, and to add another module instead, please contact us for a price, as that is perfectly possible in this range.
Plastic components are UV-stabilised and hence colourfast, just like the plastic roof covering of the Blue Rabbit® towers. These are made of UV-resistant and waterproof polyester canvas.
All Blue Rabbit® ropes are made of user-friendly “polyhemp” roping. These ropes have a natural aspect, do not overheat sensitive young skin and in addition consist of almost indestructible resin. All Blue Rabbit® rope connections are made of very durable plastic joints. No complicated and time-consuming accessory assembly: all Blue Rabbit®components are ready for use and available nicely packaged.
All Blue Rabbit® boxes are also protected against moisture absorption by means of plastic shrink packaging.
For smooth assembly you will receive the required bits and drills with each Blue Rabbit® tower and swing construction. Ground anchors are also delivered with all Blue Rabbit® tower and swing modules for anchoring the equipment.
You know that with Blue Rabbit® products you don’t buy an empty box but top-quality products that are delivered ready for use. You can recognise all components by their Blue Rabbit® logo and the rope connections with personalised plastic joints.
All beams are connected with solid bolts and all nuts are protected with plastic bolt caps. All Blue Rabbit®towers have a set of ground anchors and all the required hardware, including drills and bits.
The space under each Blue Rabbit® tower can be set up as a sandpit. And, whoever builds a Blue Rabbit®@SWING also owns a sturdy swing.
FLEXIBILITY AND COMBINATIONS:
The Blue Rabbit 2.0 modular system offers you a multitude of options and combinations. Fitting any budget and garden space, and suitable for children of all ages. Towers expanded with climbing or swing modules will be fun for toddlers and challenging for youngsters. Budget-friendly freestanding swings fulfil the range.
Most play tower models give you a choice of platform heiht: 1.2 m or 1.5 m in most towers and 60-90/90-120cm on the Cascade.
The building box is the same for both platform heights. Per tower design there is one building box to be combined with a wood package as specified for the desired platform height. Our clear wood cutting lists specify the wood packages for both platform heights of each play structure. All practical info can be found in the seperate product data sheets or in the bundled wood cutting list.
CLARITY is the guide in the concept of Blue Rabbit® towers, modules and their manuals.
Each Blue Rabbit® box contains full documentation on the programme and very detailed step-by-step manuals for the correct assembly of your playground equipment.

HOW IS THIS DELIVERED?
The Blue Rabbit range is delivered by courier. You will receive several parcels of timber, slide and kits boxes, you will need to check that they all arrive when you sign for the goods against the delivery note (each parcel has a number and also the total number of parcels for that consignment). Any problems, please write on the courier delivery note, and let us know the same day so we can track the missing parcels. The delivery is kerbside only, so the driver cannot enter your house or garage so you might need to have some extra hands to move the parcels to where you want to store them. If you cannot help, please contact us before the delivery date.
Please also do a quick visual inspection of the slide to detect any damage, and write in the delivery note if there is any damage to the slide or the packaging of any of the other parcels.
This is an example of a single tower (Beach Hut) packed ready to be dispatched.
The timber comes with a 10 year anti-rot and anti-infestation warranty.
Other items (plastic items, such as swings, accessories, handgrips etc) come with a 24 months manufacturer guarantee against manufacturing defects
BLUE RABBIT BUILDING TIPS
Before starting to build the climbing frame or module, please take out the instructions manual from the box and read the information on safety, and check that all the items are present.
It is also recommended to lay out the packs received and keep the piles as they are to make it easy to see the letters on the timber (see point 14)
1. We would recommend a couple of “Quick Grip clamps” to help you build your climbing frame as these can hold the boards/beams in place as you fit them and means you can do much of the build on your own. 2 x 12″ clamps, very useful!! If not, have a helpful pair of hands to build it with you.
2. An electric drill as well as a battery powered drill. The electric drill will have more power than a battery powered drill to drive in the large construction bolts. Use the battery drill for driving the screws.
3. A saw, although we cut the timber to length according to the cutting list there will be one or two bits that need cutting during the build process.
4. When building, if on a slightly uneven site construct the tower first and then position and level by removing the soil from under the boards, until the frame is level. This saves in a lot of work trying to get the whole site completely level.
5. If you are putting down a play surface, place the membrane down first then the frame and finally the safer surface. If you drop things into the surface while building the frame they can be a nightmare to find.
6. If building the frame on grass, mow the grass short before you build on it as again it can be a nightmare to find things in long grass if you drop them.
7. Concreting the ground anchors into the ground: We recommend using Post Fix or Postcrete, found in any building yard or DIY store. Once you make the hole about 1 spade deep and wide, pour water in, and then add 1/4 of the Post Fix bag in each hole. It doesn’t require mixing, it is instant. That should be it!!
8. If you are building towers with modules, always read the module instructions before building the tower, to see how the module connect to that particular tower. This will save you time as you might not need to build the tower completely. THIS IS A MODULAR SYSTEM. When ordering combinations of towers and modules, you won’t receive instructions on how to fit that exact combination. You will need to read the tower and modules instructions and combine them as explained in each set of instructions. It is always handy to have a photo or a plan of your final combination.
9. Make sure you have the correct amount of space and that you build the towers in the final location as they will become heavy and difficult to move.
10. Do not over tighten the fixings.
11.To increase the critical fall height of the grass, you can use our Rubber Grass mats. To read more about grass as a safer surface, please read: https://www.rospa.com/play-safety/advice/grass
12. We know it might be difficult, but try to keep children away from the area you are building the climbing frame, it will speed up the process a lot!
These Tips are speaking from experience and we hope you enjoy building your Climbing Frame and your children get years of fun from them!
13. We recommend to use a ready mix to concrete the ground anchors into the ground. There are several on the market: Postmix, Postcrete, Postfix, and can be purchased at any DIY stores. Please see below a rough guide.
14- We send out the timber in packs. We pack the timber with the same lengths together and we mark the top piece of timber, not all of them. When building separate towers, please be careful with the letters on the pieces as they might belong to other towers/modules. We try to mark them with the initials of each tower, but it is recommended that you check the dimensions on the cutting list provided at the beginning of the instructions manual.
15- If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us while building the play equipment.
We offer professional installation service throughout England and Wales for the items we supply, such as:
- Climbing frames,
- Safer surfacing
- Commercial play equipment
Please note that we only offer installation for the items purchased from Active Garden Ltd.
CLIMBING FRAMES/ PLAYHOUSES INSTALLATION:
Minimum installation for residential climbing frames/playhouses is £ 250.00-300.00 depending on the item and location. For example, big Jungle Gym or Blue Rabbit combos can cost around £ 700-900 to install or more, depending on the combination and location. The climbing frames we supply need to be concreted into the ground (either the leg of the climbing frame or a metal ground anchor, depending on the brand). Our installation service includes the concrete for the towers, swings and modules.
The installation service for climbing frames and playhouses doesn’t include groundworks. The play sets and towers need to be installed on flat and level ground with good drainage. If you are unsure about if the surface in your garden is suitable or not, please contact us.
For safety reasons, the play towers and modules need to be installed on grass, soil or rubber/wood chipped area, they cannot be installed on hard surfaces such as tarmac, patio, concrete slabs, concrete, decking, etc. We recommend to move the rubber chippings or wood chippings away from the area so the installers have a clear space to work on, the chippings can then be moved back around the climbing frame. WE CAN ADVICE on all types of safety surface, so please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss this.
For commercial installations we can install on hard surfaces if they are going to be re-surfaced afterwards but these frames specifically need safety surface such as rubber mats, rubber tiles, bonded rubber bark or wetpour.
HOW DO INSTALLATIONS WORK?
We normally discuss with the customer the climbing frame that they would like to get and the space needed to safely install it. We also discuss access, ground conditions and any possible dates. The ground needs to be flat and level to install climbing frames.
We have to coordinate with the climbing frame delivery date, to be able to install as soon as possible after the play set is delivered.
We will ask you to check the components delivered, to make sure that nothing has been lost or damaged In transit. We normally email you instructions on how to do this after the order has been placed, so please keep an eye on your inbox! This will help avoiding issues, as if the installer travels to your property and cannot proceed with the installation due to the materials being damaged or not present, there will be dissappointed families, and this will also incur a cost to you, so we try to avoid any problems by planning this carefully.
We recommend a professional and trusted installation team, that will travel to your property, take all their tools, and carry out the job at very high standards. Normally, for a tower and one module, installations will be finished in a day, but bigger combinations might take 2 days, sometimes more, depending on the time of the year.
Installations are weather depending, however our installers try to get on with the job and have a gazebo to work even if it is raining, but please bear in mind that installations can be postponed due to weather conditions.
The installers are self employed and will take payment from you directly after installation is complete. They will provide you with the receipt.
COMMERCIAL PLAYGROUND AND SURFACE INSTALLATIONS
We offer a comprehensive service, from design to completion for playgrounds and commercial play areas such as pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, farm shops, hotels, campsites, nurseries, schools and public playgrounds.
We can install play equipment and safety surfaces with our own professional team.
For commercial products and safety surface installations, please contact us to discuss your projects.
If you are interested, contact us for further information and a quote. If you have a picture of the area where the installation will be, please email it to us, and let us know if there are any access issues.

How long does it take to build Blue Rabbit Playset?
It does vary depending upon how many accessories are going with the system. Generally, we say allow a weekend to build a single tower, or maybe a tower and swing module - to read the instructions, lay out all of the tools and to make a good job out of the climbing frame rather than rushing to finish as fast as possible. We recommend a couple of days to build a simple system, a big combo can take 4 days or more depending on site, for someone who has not done this job before.
Do you supply an installation service?
Yes, we can recommend a team of installers that travel to England, Wales and possibly the South of Scotland, creating amazing climbing frames! we request a quote on your behalf and if accepted, you pay them on the installation day. We do ask to check the timber before the installers arrive, giving us enough time to replace any damaged or missing parts. Installations start at £ 250 depending on the equipment to be installed and postcode. The installers travel from Northampton. They can build a tower with one module in a day, bigger structures might take 2 days.
Where does the timber you supply for Blue Rabbit play sets come from?
The timber comes from European sources where a responsible management programme is in place. They are from responsibly managed forests.
They are sourced in the UK, and cut to size and packed in our own workshop.
What timber do you use for the Blue Rabbit climbing frames?
We use excellent quality timber, it is Scandinavian redwood from forests running a sustainable management policy. It is pressure treated and comes with a 10 year anti-rot and anti-infestation guarantee. It is also planed to reduce splinters and has radius edges.
Is the timber treated?
Yes. All of the timber that we sell is pressure treated with either Tanalith E. This is a water based product and comply with all regulations that apply to children's play equipment
Do I need planning permission for a climbing frame?
Planning rules and advice varies throughout the country. We cannot give specific advice, however, you should check with your local planning authority especially if any of the following applies to you:
If your neighbour has cause for complaint
a. If you live in a conservation area, there may be specific planning regulations.
b. You are going to build the climbing frame in your front garden
c. The equipment is going to be within 5m of the main dwelling
d. The equipment will take up more than 50% of your garden area.
e. The equipment is going to be built in a field, as it may constitute a change of use.
We recommend that the equipment fits a minimum of 1.5m away from any boundaries.
These are only guidelines. If in doubt do check with your local planning office.
How much space do I need around the climbing frame?
Above is the recommended safe amount to space to plan around your climbing frame.
You will need 1.5m around the climbing frame, and 2m in front of the slide, free of anything hard.
For the swings, you need 3.5m to the front and 3.5m to the back of the top pole where the swings hang from.
The more space around the climbing frame, the better and it will mean a safer place area for the children.
The timber has changed colour, why is that?
Tanalised timber will naturally weather over the months finally mellowing to a soft grey. This is caused by the effects of sun, moisture, wind and other exterior conditions, however the efficacy of the preservative continues.
The timber has green spots, is this mould?
No, this is due to the treatment, it is not harmful and won't affect the quality of the timber.
There are cracks in the timber, is that bad?
The timber will produce cracks that will open and close as an effect of atmospheric changes. They are not detrimental to the long term durability of the product. Tanalised timber is particularly recommended for all exterior timber applications including construction, fencing, playground equipment, climbing frames, furniture, etc.
If you are worried about any particular crack in the timber you have received, please take a picture of it, including something to see the scale of the crack, and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be happy to assess the timber and replace it if necessary and within guarantee.
Does the climbing frame need concreting into the ground?
Blue Rabbit recommend that you concrete the ground anchors into the ground. The climbing frame "sits" on the ground, then you have to attach the ground anchors to the main upright posts and either dig them or concrete the anchors into the ground. Full instructions are supplied. There is also a video here:
If I move, can I get extra ground anchors?
Yes, you can order them online. Please note that these climbing frames are not designed to be built and then taken down and re-built, so we cannot recommend that you move them, but it can be done.
My climbing frame has got green mould, how can I clean it?
If the product is located under trees you may get a build up of green mould. This can be removed effectively with a standard figicide or detergent applied with a stiff brush. When just delivered, the timber might have green spots that are NOT mould, but is due to the treatment, they are not harmful or will affect the quality of the timber.
Does the timber come pre-drilled.
No, however most of the fixings on the Blue Rabbit playsets do not require drilling right through the system, they require a pilot hole and then drive into the timber using an electric drill. This makes the building of the playset much easier. All of the drill bits and drive bits you need to build the kit are included within the hardware set.
Is the timber cut to length?
Yes, we cut the timber ourselves according to the instruction’s manual. There might be a very small amount of cutting needed whilst installing.
How is the climbing frame delivered?
We deliver the climbing frames with either Tuffnells couriers or a private van service. You will be contacted in advance to arrange a delivery date. Tuffnells will not provide an ETA, but we can request an ETA on the van service.
Both services deliver to kerbside. Please have a person available to check the delivery when it arrives.
Do you sell Blue Rabbit spare parts?
We can supply spare parts if needed.
Can I choose the colour of the slide?
Yes, blue, green, or red are available, please choose when ordering.
What is the recommended age range for the Blue Rabbit play equipment?
The recommended age is 3-10 years old. These climbing frames are recommended by weight more than age. They can have children up to 70kg (11 stone) and you can have at least 2 children per tower, depending on the tower. The swing seats can take 70kg per seat and 150kg on the group seats.
Can you give more information about assembly?
Yes, please follow this link to Blue Rabbit page for more information and on each item, we can also supply a file with assembly instructions samples.
Do I need to treat the timber after installed?
No, the treatment the timber already has will protect it for 10 years, however, if you choose to change the colour of the timber or the frame for aesthetic reasons, or enhance the natural properties of the timber, you can paint it with appropriate water based paint or stain.
Can you help me design a climbing frame for my needs?
Yes, we are experts on the Blue Rabbit range and can combine different towers, modules and accessories to create the best climbing frame for your needs. This is a free service! so contact us to discuss your project.
