Selecting the right safety surface is essential to ensure year-round usability and optimal safety for children’s playgrounds. At Active Garden, we provide a wide range of rubber safety surfaces like wetpour, rubber grass mats, rubber tiles and bonded rubber bark, all compliant with EN1177 safety standards for commercial outdoor playgrounds and residential play areas for kids.

We offer supply-only or full professional installation services, meeting EN1177 standards for critical fall height. All installations come with a guarantee of 3 to 5 years, ensuring long-lasting performance. Rubber grass mats/Safagrass

Rubber grass mats (also known as Safagrass) provide non-slip, impact-absorbing safety and footway surfaces, perfect for outdoor play areas. These durable mats allow grass to grow through them, blending into the environment. Available in black or green, they’re ideal for for fitness/fun trails, cableways, most multi-function play frames, springers, swings, and pathways, offering hidden protection and an eco-friendly solution.

Recycled Rubber Chippings/ Rubber bark

Recycled rubber chippings are a superior loose-fill option for playgrounds, offering numerous benefits over traditional wood chips. They are fire-retardant, non-toxic, and require much less depth –  starting at just 50mm compared to 200mm for woodchips. These rubber bark chippings need to be contained by an edge or border for optimal use and provide a durable, low-maintenance solution for both residential playgrounds and commercial play areas. Plus, their quick-drying properties help prevent puddles, allowing for extended playtime.

 

Bonded Rubber Bark / Bonded mulch

Our bonded rubber bark is a recycled, resin-bonded solution available in natural colours, offering a seamless and porous surface. It works well in uneven areas, providing excellent slip resistance and stays dry year-round. This low-maintenance, durable surface can be installed on compacted soil, grass, tarmac, or concrete, making it ideal for parks, schools, and play spaces.

Wetpour

Wetpour surfacing offers a vibrant, durable play area finish with a dual-layer porous system (SBR base and EPDM rubber top layer). This surface requires a specific base such as concrete, tarmac, or MOT1 with PCC or treated timber edging. Available in various colours with optional graphic elements, wet pour rubber surfacing works well for flat, mounded, or ramped structures. Wetpour is especially ideal for nurseries as it doesn’t rub off on clothes and the colour is long-lasting, setting it apart from bonded rubber options. Installed on a sturdy base, this long-lasting surface provides critical fall height protection and vibrant aesthetics for public play areas, ensuring safety and enjoyment for children.

Artificial Grass

Our high-tech artificial grass offers year-round, low-maintenance appeal. It’s ideal for landscaping or play areas, providing a realistic grass aesthetic with various depth options. When combined with a rubber infill, it ensures safety through critical fall height protection, making it great for both homes and commercial areas.

Rubber tiles

Rubber tiles are perfect for hard, even surfaces like tarmac or concrete, offering flexibility and safety. Interconnecting and available in different sizes and colours, they create a floating floor without adhesive. Choose from green, red, or black tiles for a versatile, impact-resistant surface that works well in schools, parks, and other play areas.

Hardwood Playchip / Woodchip

A processed and selectively screened hardwood chip loose impact absorbing surface (LIAS), suitable for play areas, particularly those where high movement and ground falls are likely. We offer Hardwood Playchip, which is a great option for a natural playground covering. Light brown, clean, free draining and high resistant to fire.
